Newmarket Jets Speed Skating Club · Est. 1997
A Newmarket tradition
since 1997.
A not-for-profit, parent-run community club on Olympic-size ice in Newmarket — committed to making short track speed skating accessible, affordable, and athlete-focused.
Who we are
A club built by
the community
for the community.
The Newmarket Jets Speed Skating Club has been part of this community since 1997 — a place where skaters of all ages and abilities learn, compete, and belong. From a child's very first stride to an athlete's first provincial start, everyone has a pathway here.
We are a not-for-profit club run entirely by parent volunteers, affiliated with Speed Skating Ontario and Speed Skating Canada. Every dollar goes back into ice time, coaching, and athlete development — so our skaters benefit, not shareholders.
We train on Olympic-size ice at the Bobby Forhan Rink inside the Magna Centre — one of the best short track facilities in Ontario, right here in Newmarket.

Our philosophy
Built on community.
Driven by the sport.
We believe great speed skating starts with a foundation of community, dedication, and strong fundamentals. Our coaching team develops each skater at the right pace for their own goals — whether that's enjoying recreational skating, building fitness, or pursuing competitive excellence.
We value sportsmanship, teamwork, and inclusivity just as much as podium finishes. This is a place where families feel welcome, athletes feel supported, and the joy of skating never gets lost in the pursuit of results. It's been that way since 1997 — and that isn't changing.
Community & governance
How the club works.
Run by parent volunteers
The Jets are governed by an elected parent board. Every coordinator, official, and administrator is a volunteer — no paid overhead, just people who love the sport putting in the work so athletes can skate.
Town of Newmarket partnership
We have a long-standing relationship with the Town of Newmarket and the Magna Centre — one of the best municipal ice facilities in Ontario. That relationship gives our athletes consistent access to Olympic-size ice at a fair cost.
Community fundraising
We actively fundraise within the Newmarket community — keeping membership fees accessible and reinvesting every dollar back into the program, the coaching team, and the athlete experience.
Affiliated with SSO & SSC
Every Jets member is registered with Speed Skating Ontario and Speed Skating Canada — giving them access to sanctioned competitions, national rankings, and the full development pathway from community club to national team.
